16 Best Tobacco Fragrances For Men – Top Picks Reviewed

The note of tobacco is an amazing note with an intense and sweet scent. Although commonly misunderstood, this is a truly fantastic note that makes for some truly amazing fragrances. But what are the best tobacco fragrances for men?

What Is The Note Of Tobacco And How Does It Smell?

Tobacco is a commonly used note in the sweeter and more intense colognes. Many people initially think that they won’t like the note of tobacco because of its reputation. However, tobacco in fragrances is the sweet, unlit kind. The note itself doesn’t give off an ash-like scent, but rather a sweet and comforting scent.

Tobacco in perfumery smells sweet, intense, warm, and mysterious. It sometimes even has a spicy or floral nuance hidden as well. On top of that, sometimes, the note of tobacco gives off a dry, almost hay-like scent. Overall, tobacco is an extremely versatile and well-liked note.

Despite the bad name of tobacco, the use of tobacco in perfumery has nothing to do with that. Instead, the note of tobacco is one of the more liked fragrance notes, even if some might not know that. Tobacco has this addictive scent to it that just keeps you coming back again and again.

The note of tobacco is already great on its own, but it becomes even better when used in combination with certain notes. Sweet notes such as vanilla or honey will always go great with tobacco, but so do certain spices and boozy notes. And the great thing is that tobacco also seems to work great in a fresher composition. Combining tobacco with citrusy, floral, or aromatic notes makes for a fresh, yet dense cologne.

Overall, the note of tobacco is one of the most likable fragrance notes there is. In this article, we’ll discuss some of the best tobacco-based colognes for men, in no particular order!

1. Parfums De Marly Herod

Parfums De Marly Herod has always been known as an amazing tobacco-based cologne with an approachable and easy-to-wear scent that’s perfect for those that are new to tobacco colognes. Made by Olivier Pescheux, this fragrance was released in 2012.

  • Top Notes: Cinnamon and Pepper.
  • Middle Notes: Tobacco Leaves, Incense, Osmanthus and Labdanum.
  • Base Notes: Vanilla, Iso E Super, Musk, Cedar, Cypriol Oil and Vetiver.

What Does Parfums De Marly Herod Smell Like?

The opening of Herod is sweet with the tobacco immediately at the forefront. Along with the tobacco are a few warm spicy notes, creating an all in all warm and rich scent with sweet undertones. This scent will continue on for a while, only to be softened out by a fruity undertone of osmanthus.

The freshness of the osmanthus is short-lived, however, as they’re quickly overpowered by hints of smoky incense and labdanum. These two notes fit in perfectly with the warm and rich spices and tobacco, creating a luxurious and extremely pleasant scent. Every now and then, you can also pick up a soft and creamy sweetness, coming from the vanilla, which gradually becomes stronger.

In the dry down, the vanilla starts playing a large role and adds a creamy sweetness to the mix that balances out the spices and tobacco. Still, the tobacco is the main star with its rich and sweet scent, but it is balanced out slightly. We can also find a few warm woody notes in the dry down, leaving you with an overall warm, rich, and sweet tobacco cologne.

With such a scent, it comes as no surprise that this is the perfect cold-weather cologne. Great for both the fall and winter, Herod can also be worn to pretty much every setting or occasion. It’s great for nights out or dates, but will also be great in the office or any other formal setting Even casually throughout the day will it do an amazing job!

  • Top Notes: Whiskey.
  • Middle Notes: Spicy Notes, Cinnamon and Coriander.
  • Base Notes: Tobacco, Oud, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Incense, Benzoin, Vanilla and Cedar.

What Does Tom Ford Tobacco Oud Smell Like?

Tobacco Oud opens loud and powerful, just as you would expect from a fragrance with this name. The note of whiskey is immediately noticeable, giving off a warm, boozy, and rugged feel. Along with the whiskey is a dry scent of tobacco, pairing together nicely to create something powerful and bold, but subdued and luxurious.

A little while after the opening, the dry tobacco starts to become slightly sweeter. In addition, there’s the sweet and spicy note of cinnamon, paired with lots of other warm spices, all coming together to warm and sweeten up the scent. The whiskey is still present at this point, but it’s no longer as powerful as it was in the opening.

As the cologne starts to dry down, you can start to pick up the note of oud, a bold and powerful note that perfectly complements the tobacco. Both are rich, powerful, and slightly sweet, making for a fantastic combination. Along with the oud are a few sweet fragrance notes, as well as a touch of smoky incense and warm cedarwood. This all leaves you with a sweet, bold, and powerful cologne centered around the notes of tobacco and oud.

Thierry Mugler colognes are always known for their bold and powerful scents. With Pure Havane, a flanker of the original A*Men, they took their sweet and spicy DNA and pushed it into a more tobacco-based direction. Made by Jacques Huclier, this fragrance was released in 2011.

  • Top Notes: Tobacco and White Honey.
  • Middle Notes: Vanilla, Cacao and Patchouli.
  • Base Notes: Amber, Labdanum and Styrax.

What Does Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Havana Smell Like?

The opening of A*Men Pure Havane is rich and sweet and has a lot in common with the original A*Men. Sticky honey, sweet tobacco, and intense patchouli all play a role in the opening, but it’s the tobacco that sets this cologne apart from the original. The tobacco is intensely sweet and has that typical pipe tobacco-like scent to it.

Although the tobacco is front and center, the note of honey follows closely, giving off a sweet and sticky vibe that goes amazingly well with the sweet tobacco. From here, you can also pick up a sweet hint of vanilla, giving off its creamy scent, and there’s even a touch of cacao present, also adding its own form of sweetness.

In the dry down, not that much changes anymore. You can still primarily smell the tobacco with the honey and vanilla right behind. There are some resinous notes in the dry down, but they are pretty subtle. Overall, you get an amazing cologne that smells of sweet tobacco and sticky honey but always manages to stay inoffensive and approachable.

Pure Havane is a sweet and powerful fragrance through and through, making it most suitable for those months where the temperatures are low. The lower temperatures will soften out the scent a bit, lessening its boldness while preserving all its great qualities. During the colder months, this cologne is perfect for any type of casual setting, whether you’re relaxing at home, having a fun night out with friends, or about to go on a date!

Speaking of tobacco, the actual note and scent of tobacco appears shortly after the opening. The tobacco is rich, warm, and powerful, perfectly tying in with the opening and immediately puts itself in the spotlight. All of the warm notes are in turn balanced out by a few floral notes and juicy fruity notes. 5. Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Extreme

Viktor & Rolf’s Spicebomb Extreme is a flanker of the original Spicebomb, an extremely popular cologne. With the Extreme version, they took their wonderfully spicy cologne and pushed it in a sweeter direction. Launched in 2015, Spicebomb Extreme has quickly become one of the most popular men’s fragrances on the market.

  • Fragrance Notes: Vanilla, Tobacco, Black Pepper, Caraway and Lavender.

What Does Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Extreme Smell Like?

The opening of this fragrance will immediately show why this is such a popular cologne. The opening is rich, sweet, and spicy with a bunch of spices at the front. These spices are supported by a creamy sweet scent of vanilla, creating an overall smooth and easy-going scent. Right from the get-go, we’re introduced to something truly amazing.

Shortly after the opening, the warm spices are balanced out by the addition of aromatic lavender. The lavender is fresh but also contains a spicy aromatic edge. This makes it blend in seamlessly with the spices from the opening, so you won’t really smell the lavender itself, but it’s definitely there. The lavender ensures that this cologne never becomes too overpowering or obtrusive.

In the dry down, we can really start to pick up the note of tobacco. With its rich, warm, and somewhat spicy scent, the tobacco perfectly fits in with the scent that’s already established. It can only add to it, making it even nicer, richer, and more intense. Even though this is one of those colognes where the tobacco is not the main star, it’s definitely deserving of a spot on this list.

Spicebomb Extreme is without a doubt a cold-weather fragrance. With its intensely rich, warm, and spicy scent, this cologne would just be too much for a warm summer day. But with the low wintery temperatures, this fragrance is amazing. It’s perfect for a night out or date, but it will do just as well in the office or at home. It smells amazing and it’s also extremely versatile; a true all-star.

6. Creed Tabarome Millesime

Creed is a house known for creating amazing fresh fragrances. With Tabarome Millesime, they took the note of tobacco and went in a more fresh and aromatic direction, making for a very unique tobacco-based cologne. Made by Olivier Creed, this fragrance was released in 2000.

  • Top Notes: Bergamot and Tangerine.
  • Middle Notes: Ginger.
  • Base Notes: Tobacco, Sandalwood, Ambergris, Leather and Patchouli.

What Does Creed Tabarome Millesime Smell Like?

This cologne opens with a fresh scent of citruses and ginger, a fresh spicy note. These notes all ensure a rather fresh opening that makes for a perfect segway into the fresh scent of tobacco. Tabarome Millesime makes use of a fresh note of tobacco. Of course, there’s still that typical tobacco sweetness, but it’s done in a much lighter way.

After a short while, a smooth scent of leather starts to appear, giving the cologne a smooth and masculine edge. The leather and tobacco are both strong and powerful, but both are done in a rather fresh manner. However, there’s still a lot of depth found in this cologne as well. It’s just an overall very unique and unusual composition.

In the dry down, we can find the note of patchouli, which adds a rich and sweet scent to the mix. The patchouli also brings out the sweetness in the tobacco, leaving behind the freshness that was established in the opening. So where you start with a rather refreshing scent of tobacco and citruses, you end with a richer, warmer, and denser scent of tobacco, leather, and patchouli.

Due to the transition from refreshing to sweet and dense, this is actually a cologne you can wear all year long. The opening makes it great for the warmer months, whereas the denser dry down makes it great for the colder months. In the dry down, the whole fragrance softens out a bit, smoothing out the rough edges and leaving you with a clean and fresh scent of tobacco. Although fresh, this cologne is still powerful, just not overpowering or offensive. It’s an amazing cologne with a rather unique scent of tobacco.

  • Top Notes: Lavender, Sage and Mandarin.
  • Middle Notes: Tobacco, Rose, Carnation and Geranium.
  • Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Fir, Vetiver and Cedar.

What Does Versace The Dreamer Smell Like?

The Dreamer opens with a fresh scent of lavender, sage, and mandarin. These three notes are fresh, herbal, and a little fruity, and together, they make for the perfect segway into the fresh note of tobacco used in this cologne. The tobacco appears pretty quickly after the opening and gives off a rich and sweet scent that’s balanced out by the initial opening notes.

Not long after the opening, a few fresh floral notes start to appear. Fresh hints of rose and carnation are both present, giving off a refreshing, almost old-school scent. Both are aromatic and add a touch of class to the mix. This goes great with the already fresh and aromatic scent from the opening and adds that ‘dreamy’ effect to the cologne.

  • Base Notes: Dried Fruits, Plum, Patchouli and Sandalwood.

Micheal For Men opens with a vintage, old-school-like scent of several spices, herbal notes, and aromatic notes. The opening appears fresh and aromatic, but there’s a ton of depth to it, creating an overall warm and heavy-feeling scent. Alongside all the herbal and aromatic notes are a few fruity notes that actually play a large role in this scent.

Shortly after the opening, we can start to pick up hints of sweet tobacco paired with smoky incense. These two notes create an incredibly complex scent that will carry on all the way into the dry down. But before we reach the dry down, the spicy notes make one last stand. Along with the tobacco is a smooth scent of leather, which provides both a smooth feeling and an intense layer of richness. Together with the tobacco, they make up for most of the mid of this cologne.

As this fragrance starts to dry down, you can pick up a resinous undertone that’s both sweet and smooth. This, once again, ties in nicely with the already established scent. From here, the cologne doesn’t really change that much anymore, leaving you with an overall amazing scent that takes the note of tobacco and pushes it into a more youthful and playful direction.

Burberry London For Men is rich and sweet and is perfect for the fall and winter. During these colder months, this cologne is best worn casually, as it might be a little too playful for a more serious setting. Casually throughout the day or at night, though, it’s amazing. The playfulness makes it all the better for a more relaxed setting!

16. Paco Rabanne One Million Prive

One Million Prive is a flanker of the extremely popular Paco Rabanne cologne One Million. With Prive, they took the original DNA and added a sweet undertone of tobacco to it. Made by Christophe Raynaud, this cologne was released in 2016.

  • Top Notes: Cinnamon and Blood Mandarin.
  • Middle Notes: Tobacco and Myrrh.
  • Base Notes: Tonka Bean and Patchouli.

What Does Paco Rabanne One Million Prive Smell Like?

One Million Prive opens with a blast of tobacco and cinnamon, creating an intensely rich and sweet scent that still has that typical One Million DNA. One Million is known for its sweet and youthful scent and that can definitely be found back in this creation. The main difference is the addition of tobacco, which adds another layer of sweetness to the mix.

From here, the fragrance doesn’t change that much anymore. There are several sweet notes added, such as myrrh and tonka bean, but none really overtake the tobacco. There is the addition of a juicy mandarin, which adds a refreshing sweetness to the mix and balances out the dense sweet notes, but besides that, this cologne mainly stays sweet and intense.

In the dry down, though, things start to settle down a bit. The intense sweetness becomes a bit softer and the scent itself starts to become a little smoother and creamier. Of course, the tobacco is still noticeable, and so is the cinnamon, but everything seems a little more subdued.

An overall amazing cologne with a sweet and youthful scent. This would be an amazing signature scent for a younger guy, as you can wear this fragrance pretty much all the time. It’s great for school or work, but it’s also great for nights out, dates, or casual days at home. There’s just no going wrong with this one; provided you apply an appropriate number of sprays according to where you’re going.
