14 Best Jo Malone Fragrances For Women – Top Picks Reviewed

The house of Jo Malone is a very popular niche fragrance house, loved for their easy-going and natural-smelling fragrances. Out of their large selection, you might wonder, what are the best Jo Malone fragrances for women?

The House Of Jo Malone And Its Fragrances

Jo Malone is a household name when it comes to perfumery and scented products. With a wide range of different products, ranging from fragrances to scented candles to spa products, Jo Malone never fails to amaze us with their wonderful scents.

The very first Jo Malone boutique was opened in 1994 in London. Jo Malone started her career as a florist and she would often gift scented bath oils to her customers. This helped her business take off, leading to her opening her own boutique.

With over 150 fragrances under their name, Jo Malone takes a very easy approach at naming their creations. All fragrances are basically named after the main note (or notes) that make up the perfume. The perfume ‘Red Roses’, for example, is a perfume based on red roses. The same goes for ‘Grapefruit’ or ‘English Pear & Freesia’.

A Jo Malone fragrance is easily recognizable. They come in a signature bottle that’s the same for every perfume and pretty much all of the Jo Malone fragrances tend to have one thing in common; a natural-smelling scent. This is one of the biggest strengths of the brand, as they’re known for creating airy and inoffensive scents.

This, of course, is done on purpose, as Jo Malone encourages people to layer different Jo Malone fragrances with each other. Layering all these different perfumes makes for endless possibilities, allowing you to create your own unique signature scent. But they’re also great on their own, of course!

In this article, we’ll discuss some of the best Jo Malone fragrances for women, in no particular order!

1. Red Roses

Red Roses is the first Jo Malone perfume we’ll discuss. This fragrance has a gorgeously feminine scent of fresh and classy rose and is a popular choice amongst rose-lovers. Made by Lucien Piquet and Patricia Bilodeau, this fragrance was released in 2001.

  • Top Notes: Lemon and Mint.
  • Middle Notes: Bulgarian Rose and Violet Leaves.
  • Base Notes: Beeswax.

What Does Jo Malone Red Roses Smell Like?

The opening of Red Roses immediately introduces us to that gorgeous scent of fresh and classy rose. Along with the rose are the notes of lemon and mint; the lemon is juicy and fresh and the mint has a cool and aromatic scent to it. These two notes are already amazing, but when blended with the rose, you get something truly stunning.

Shortly after the opening, there’s the addition of violet leaves. These add a green and natural undertone to the perfume, adding to the refreshing and incredibly classy scent. And that’s really the best way to describe Jo Malone Red Roses; a classy, elegant, and luxurious perfume with a fresh and feminine edge.

As the fragrance dries down, we can start to pick up a smooth and soft scent of beeswax. The beeswax adds a subtle sweetness to the mix but primarily makes sure that this perfume is extremely smooth and easy-going. The subtle sweetness does work together nicely with the rose, which possesses a subtle sweetness itself as well. Together, they ensure a slightly sweeter ending, but this fragrance is mainly a fresh one.

With a fresh scent like this, it comes as no surprise that this perfume is best worn during the spring and summer. Here, the fresh and elegant scent of rose will perfectly fit in, whether you’re relaxing at home or going to the office. The note of rose always has a classy and elegant vibe to it, and that’s no different here. The classiness makes sure that this perfume will work anywhere, no matter the location or occasion!

2. English Pear & Freesia

English Pear & Freesia is a fruity floral fragrance with an emphasis on the juicy note of pear and the refreshing note of freesia. When combined, these two notes can create something wonderful. The perfumer of this fragrance is Christine Nagel and the fragrance was released in 2010.

  • Top Notes: Pear and Melon.
  • Middle Notes: Freesia and Rose.
  • Base Notes: Musk, Patchouli, Amber and Rhubarb.

What Does Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Smell Like?

The opening of English Pear & Freesia is strong and sweet with the notes of melon and pear at the front. The pear is powerfully sweet and juicy, but also contains an air of naturalness to it. The melon is also part of that juicy and fruity scent, but it’s a little softer when compared to the pear. Together, though, they make for a strong but light and airy opening.

Not long after the opening will you start to notice the addition of several floral notes. There’s the note of rose, which is giving off a classy and almost jammy-sweet scent, but there’s also the note of freesia, giving off its signature flowery freshness. Both of these notes add a wonderful layer of depth to the perfume without taking away from the initial fruity sweetness.

As the fragrance starts to dry down, not that much will change anymore. The only note that’s added is the note of patchouli, which is a little sweet and spicy. The patchouli mainly adds a lot of character to the perfume, but it does also bring a soft spice with it. The spiciness can feel a little out of place initially, but as it settles down, it blends in beautifully with all the other notes.

With a focus on fruity notes and floral notes, English Pear & Freesia is of course best worn during the spring and summer. The naturally sweet and flowery perfume perfectly fits in with the higher temperatures, always ensuring a fun and outgoing aroma around you. This fragrance does feel a little laid-back, so it might not be your best bet for a formal setting, but that makes it all the better for a casual day out!

3. Myrrh & Tonka

Myrrh & Tonka, made by the perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui, is a gorgeous fragrance with a sweet, smooth, and resinous scent. Ever since its release in 2016, it has been a fan favorite amongst the Jo Malone fragrance line.

  • Top Notes: Lavender.
  • Middle Notes: Myrrh.
  • Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Vanilla and Almond.

What Does Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka Smell Like?

Myrrh & Tonka opens warm, sweet, and extremely smooth. The note of myrrh is at the forefront, right from the get-go, giving off a sweet and resinous scent. Along with the myrrh is the note of tonka bean, a smooth, sweet, and creamy note. Together, these two fragrance notes create an extremely pleasant scent that’s smooth, warm, and inviting.

Not long after the opening, the notes of vanilla and almond start to show themselves. These are two sweet and creamy gourmand notes that blend in perfectly with the myrrh and tonka bean. The sweetness of the vanilla really ties in with the sweet myrrh and the nutty and creamy scent of almond perfectly accentuates the tonka bean.

From here, the fragrance won’t really change that much anymore. Myrrh & Tonka is a rather linear perfume, but a good one at that. Its buzzwords really are ‘sweet’ and ‘creamy’, but all of that is balanced out slightly by an undertone of lavender. The lavender is aromatically fresh, but very soft and doesn’t really push away any of the other notes.

Myrrh & Tonka is without a doubt a cold-weather fragrance. And thanks to the extremely smooth feel, you can actually wear this one both casually and formally. It will do a great job when worn in the office, but you can just as easily wear it at home. This would even be a great fragrance to wear on a date or a night out! It’s just that versatile!

4. Blackberry & Bay

Blackberry & Bay is an amazing perfume with a fresh and fruity scent that’s supported by some floral undertones. This fragrance was made by the perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin and was released back in 2012.

  • Fragrance Notes: Blackberry, Bay Leaves, Grapefruit, Cedar, Vetiver, and Floral Notes.

What Does Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay Smell Like?

Blackberry & Bay opens with a sweet and fresh scent of fruits. The blackberry will immediately be present in the opening, giving off a juicy and almost jammy scent. Along with the blackberry is a soft undertone of fresh grapefruit, which adds a nice zestiness to the perfume. Overall, the opening is fresh, naturally sweet, and a little straightforward.

Not long after the opening, you can start to pick up an aromatic and herbal scent of bay leaves. These bay leaves add an interesting undertone to the mix, balancing out the jammy sweetness of the blackberries by making it a little fresher. Along with the bay leaves are a few floral notes, and these add a nice and natural scent to the perfume. However, the florals only linger in the background and aren’t that strong.

As the fragrance dries down, not that much changes anymore. There is the addition of warm cedarwood, but this mainly serves as a base for the other notes to thrive on. It does ensure a slightly warmer finish, but this perfume will primarily be fresh and fruity. This leaves you with an easy-going fragrance that smells super pleasant and likable.

With its fruity-forward scent, Blackberry & Bay is best worn during the warmer seasons of spring and summer. The naturally fresh scent of fruits perfectly fits in with the higher temperatures, making for an enjoyable and easy-going perfume. Blackberry & Bay can easily be worn in both casual and formal settings, making it not only smell amazing but also versatile.

5. Velvet Rose & Oud

Velvet Rose & Oud is another rose-based fragrance from the house of Jo Malone. This time, it’s paired with the note of oud, creating the classic rose and oud combination that’s loved by many. Made by Fabrice Pellegrin, this fragrance was released in 2012.

  • Fragrance Notes: Damask Rose, Agarwood (Oud), Praline and Clove.

What Does Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud Smell Like?

Velvet Rose & Oud opens with a strong scent of rose, which appears fresh and almost jammy sweet. Along with the rose is a dense hint of praline, which comes across a little nutty and creamy. Together, they form the perfect segway into the note of oud, which is bold, strong, and a little sweet. However, the rose and praline are the main stars in the opening.

A little while after the opening, you can really start to notice the oud. Just like most oud perfumes, the overall scent suddenly becomes much darker and richer, taking on a heavier and denser feel. Still, the perfume smells absolutely amazing. The combination of rose and oud has always been a fan favorite, but the addition of praline makes it even nicer.

In the dry down, the fragrance doesn’t really change that much anymore. There is the addition of the note of clove, but this stays in the background. This fragrance is all about the rich scent of oud, paired with the fresh and classy scent of rose, backed by a smooth and nutty undertone of praline.

As expected, Velvet Rose & Oud is definitely a cold-weather fragrance. With the bold note of oud and the gourmand note of praline as some of the key components, this fragrance would be way too strong for a warm summer day. In the colder seasons, though, this fragrance is absolutely amazing for both formal and casual occasions. It radiates class and elegance but in a subtle and easy-going way.

6. Mimosa & Cardamom

Mimosa & Cardamom is a wonderful perfume that blends warm spicy notes with fresh floral notes. Made by Marie Salamagne, this fragrance was released in 2015, and ever since its release, it has been a popular choice amongst Jo Malone fans!

  • Top Notes: Cardamom.
  • Middle Notes: Mimosa.
  • Base Notes: Tonka Bean.

What Does Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom Smell Like?

The opening of Mimosa & Cardamom is just as you would expect; a gorgeous blend of fresh mimosa and spicy cardamom. The mimosa offers a stunningly fresh scent of yellow florals, giving off a semi-sweet and somewhat rich freshness. The cardamom, on the other hand, is spicy and warm, but also a little fresh. Combined, these two notes create a wonderful opening that does the name justice.

From here, this scent of mimosa and cardamom will continue on for a long while. In fact, it doesn’t really change that much, if at all, for a very long time. Luckily, the scent that’s already there is great, engulfing you in an elegant and contrasting aroma, so the perfume being linear isn’t too bad.

In the dry down, there is a slight change. The addition of tonka bean makes the perfume much creamier, balancing out the rough edges of the spicy cardamom and even adding in a light sweetness. Still, the mimosa and cardamom are the main stars here and the tonka bean merely plays a role in the background.

Overall, Mimosa & Cardamom is a lovely perfume that smells simple and elegant. With its contrasting scent of fresh florals and warm spices, you’re best off wearing this perfume during the cooler seasons of fall and spring. Here, it goes great in both formal and casual settings; you can’t really go wrong with a delightful and simple scent such as this.

  • Top Notes: Green Notes, Blackcurrant, and Petitgrain.
  • Middle Notes: Nectarine and Black Locust.
  • Base Notes: Peach, Plum, and Vetiver.

What Does Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Smell Like?

The opening of Nectarine Blossom & Honey is gorgeously sweet and fruity and has an airy feel to it. The airy feel will always ensure that this perfume will never come across as sickeningly sweet, but rather naturally sweet. In the opening, we can find the notes of blackcurrant and nectarine, both giving off a juicy and fruity scent.

Added to these fruity notes are a few fresh floral notes. There’s the soapy clean note of petitgrain, several green notes, and there’s even a hint of dry vetiver. These all ensure that the perfume feels grounded, but they also add to the overall gorgeousness of this perfume. Especially the floral notes; these give off a flowery, feminine, and blossom-like scent.

As we move into the dry down, a few more fruity notes are added. Sweet and juicy hints of peach and plum are present, but so is a dry and earthy scent of vetiver. The vetiver, once again, makes sure that the perfume doesn’t go overboard on the sweetness, keeping the scent in check and making it smell even nicer.

Overall, Nectarine Blossom & Honey is a gorgeous fragrance. Although there’s no actual scent of honey, the juicy fruity notes do recreate a honey-like scent. Still, despite the sweetness, this is definitely a warm-weather fragrance. It’s perfect for a warm spring or summer day and is best worn casually throughout the day. This perfume is fun, lively, and outgoing!

8. Blue Agave & Cacao

Blue Agave & Cacao is a very interesting perfume from the house. This fragrance is rich, warm, and spicy, but there’s also a chocolaty undertone present. Made by Jo Malone herself, this fragrance was released back in 2006.

  • Top Notes: Cardamom, Lime Blossom, Grapefruit, and Red Berries.
  • Middle Notes: Orchid, Lily, and Geranium.
  • Base Notes: Cacao, Vanilla Pod, Cinnamon, Vetiver, and Musk.

What Does Jo Malone Blue Agave & Cacao Smell Like?

The opening of Blue Agave & Cacao is warm and slightly fresh with a mixture of several spices and floral notes. There’s the fresh spicy note of cardamom, paired with fresh scents of lime blossom, orchid, and lily, but you can also detect several fruity notes, such as grapefruit and red berries. This leads to a somewhat fresh, but also heavy opening.

Shortly after the opening, you can start to pick up a rich scent of cacao. The cacao gives the perfume a chocolaty feeling that goes great with the sweet fruits from the opening. Alongside the cacao is the note of geranium, which is an intense floral note with aromatic and spicy qualities. This, once again, blends in perfectly with the scent from the opening.

As the fragrance starts to dry down, it becomes a little sweeter and smoother. This is due to the addition of vanilla, which is giving off a creamy sweet scent. This creaminess goes great with the sweet scent of cacao and it also smooths out some of the spices, ensuring a slightly softer dry down. This leaves you with an overall rich, warm, sweet, and smooth perfume that smells truly amazing.

With its focus on warmer notes, Blue Agave & Cacao is best worn during the colder and cooler seasons. It’s perfect for the cold winters, but also great for the slightly cooler seasons of fall and spring. Here, you’re best off wearing this fragrance casually, as the chocolaty scent does give the perfume a playful touch. It makes it a bit less serious, which is great for a casual setting, but not ideal for a formal one.

  • Base Notes: Suede.

Peony & Blush Suede opens with a sweet and flowery scent of rose and peony. What this leaves you with is a fresh and airy scent of floral notes, supported by an undertone of sweet apple.

This scent will continue on for a long time, never really changing all that much. Luckily, the scent is already amazing and beautifully highlights the airy sweetness of both the rose and peony. The scent is classy and elegant, but also rich and feminine. After some time, though, the florals will be supported by a touch of suede.

10. Pomegranate Noir

Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir is a wonderful perfume that blends warm spicy notes with sweet fruity notes. All of this is backed by a woody undertone, creating an immersive and likable scent. Made by Beverly Bayne, this fragrance was released in 2005.

  • Top Notes: Pomegranate, Rhubarb, Plum, Raspberry, and Watermelon.
  • Middle Notes: Clove, Pink Pepper, Guaiac Wood, Olibanum, Opoponax, Rose, Jasmine, and Lily Of The Valley.
  • Base Notes: Cedar, Patchouli, Musk, and Amber.

What Does Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Smell Like?

Pomegranate Noir opens with an interesting scent of sweet and spicy notes. There are several sweet fruity notes present, such as pomegranate, raspberry, and watermelon, but there are also hints of cloves, pepper, and several resinous notes. The fruits are juicy and sweet and the spices are warm and rich, creating an interesting and somewhat unusual mix.

After a short while, both the fruity and spicy notes start to settle down a bit, blending together and creating a more coherent scent. At this point, you’ll smell a warm and rich scent of pomegranate with several fruity undertones. This is then accompanied by a few floral notes, of which the rose seems most pronounced. These floral notes beautifully balance out the initial richness of the spices.

As the fragrance dries down, you can start to notice a few woody notes, and the resinous notes found in the middle start to push themselves in the spotlight, leading to a slightly richer, warmer, and even dustier scent. This leaves you with a rich and warm perfume that initially started somewhat fruity and sweet. Safe to say that Pomegranate Noir lives up to its name!

With its rich and warm scent, Pomegranate Noir is best worn during the colder seasons of fall and winter. Here, the warm and rich scent will provide you with a welcoming and comforting aroma that works perfectly in any casual setting. Whether you’re relaxing at home or having a fun night out, this perfume will be perfect for you (especially if you enjoy warm and fruity perfumes)!

Focused on the note of grapefruit, this perfume was made to smell refreshingly nice on its own, but also to be blended with the other Jo Malone fragrances.

  • Top Notes: Grapefruit and Tangerine.
  • Middle Notes: Rosemary, Mint, Paprika and Jasmine.
  • Base NotesVetiver, Oakmoss and Patchouli.

What Does Jo Malone Grapefruit Smell Like?

Jo Malone Grapefruit opens with a juicy and realistic scent of grapefruit. The opening is juicy, bright, zesty, and citrusy fresh. 12. Wood Sage & Sea Salt

  • Top Notes: Ambrette Seeds and Grapefruit.
  • Middle Notes: Sea Salt and Seaweed.
  • Base Notes: Sage.

What Does Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Smell Like?

The opening of Wood Sage & Sea Salt is light and airy with a citrusy undertone of grapefruit. The grapefruit is light and zest and even a little juicy, creating a soft and refreshing scent. Added to the grapefruit is an aquatic scent, courtesy of the notes of sea salt and seaweed. These two notes give the perfume a salty, ocean-like scent.

This salty ocean-like scent will continue on for a long while, always providing you with an airy and refreshing scent. The scent of this perfume can almost be described as a salty breeze near an oceanside cliff. Although it might sound a little weird to smell like that, Wood Sage & Sea Salt smells absolutely incredible.

In the dry down, the fragrance becomes a little warmer. This is due to the addition of sage, which is giving off an aromatic and slightly woody scent. This blends in perfectly with the salty and natural scent from the opening, leaving you with an overall fresh, simple, and delightful scent.

Wood Sage & Sea Salt is an amazingly fresh perfume that’s perfect for the warm spring and summer days. During these warmer seasons, this perfume is perfect for a casual day out with friends, but it’s also relaxing enough to wear casually at home. 13. Lime Basil & Mandarin

Lime Basil & Mandarin is a true classic of the house, dating all the way back to 1999. Made by Jo Malone herself, this perfume has a refreshingly aromatic scent with lovely herbal and citrusy undertones in there. A true delight!

  • Top Notes: Lime, Mandarin and Bergamot.
  • Middle Notes: Basil, Thyme, Iris and Lilac.
  • Base Notes: Vetiver and Patchouli.

What Does Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Smell Like?

The opening of Lime Basil & Mandarin immediately introduces us to the main stars of this perfume. Gorgeous hints of herbal and aromatic basil, paired with a juicy sweet scent of lime and a fruity and citrusy touch of bergamot. The opening is pretty heavy on the citruses, and the basil is definitely on the weaker side compared to them, but all of the notes are present and all can be detected.

Shortly after the opening, a few more aromatic herbal notes are added, strengthening the scent of the basil, making it appear stronger and more pronounced. At this point, there seems to be an even mix of fresh citruses and aromatic herbal notes, and together, they create something fresh, elegant, and easy-going.

As the fragrance starts to dry down, we’re gradually moving into a slightly warmer scent with a heavier focus on the herbal notes. The citruses are still there, and the scent is still refreshing, but the herbal and aromatic notes are pushing themselves to the forefront. Along with the herbal notes is a dry hint of vetiver, adding to the slightly warmer feel.

Jo Malone’s Lime Basil & Mandarin is fresh and aromatic, which makes it best for the warmer seasons. Here, it’s perfect for casual daytime wear and can honestly be worn all the time. You could even wear this one formally, but it does seem to work best in a more laid-back environment. 14. Orange Blossom

Orange Blossom is a beautiful fragrance that smells just like actual orange blossom. This natural-smelling and refreshing fragrance dates back to 2003 and was made by the perfumer Jean Claude Delville.

  • Top Notes: Tangerine Blossom.
  • Middle Notes: Orange Blossom, Lilac and Water Lily.
  • Base Notes: Iris and Vetiver.

What Does Jo Malone Orange Blossom Smell Like?

Jo Malone Orange Blossom opens beautifully with a clean scent of orange blossom. Along with the orange blossom is the note of tangerine blossom, but these two notes are pretty similar. What they will provide you with is a stunningly clean scent with soapy and flowery undertones; this is one of the most natural and light orange blossom perfumes.

A little while after the opening, you can start to notice a few more floral notes. There’s the note of lily, a soft and clean floral note, as well as a hint of aromatic lilac. However, these two floral notes stay relatively subtle and don’t overtake that clean and soapy scent of the orange blossom.

As the fragrance dries down, the scent will gradually become a little warmer. This is due to the addition of vetiver, a dry and earthy note, but also because of the powdery iris that’s introduced. These two notes ensure a slightly richer dry down, but once again, the orange blossom is the strongest here. This leaves you with an overall clean and soapy scent that smells naturally fresh and absolutely amazing.

With such a fresh scent, Orange Blossom is best worn when the temperatures are high. The seasons of spring and summer are perfect for a perfume like this, and you can wear it pretty much all the time. It’s so clean, soapy, and inoffensive that you simply can’t go wrong with it. Whether you’re at home, going to the office, or working out, this perfume will be perfect.

Are Jo Malone Fragrances Worth It?

The house of Jo Malone is a popular niche fragrance house, loved for its fresh and natural-smelling creations. But, since they are a niche fragrance house, a Jo Malone fragrance can cost you quite a bit, but are they even worth it?

Jo Malone fragrances are worth it because they’re made with high-quality ingredients and they smell great. When compared to other fragrance houses, the typical Jo Malone fragrance also has more uses, as these fragrances are partly made to be blended and mixed with each other. These extra functions make them worth it.

Now, Jo Malone isn’t really known for making long-lasting fragrances. The typical Jo Malone fragrance will last a little shorter than the average fragrance, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t any good. Jo Malone perfumes have the most amazing natural scents that seem to fit in anywhere.
